Jared Goff put together a masterful performance Sunday against the Saints. We Isolate one of his touchdown throws for review.

In our Iso Series, We look at how Matt Ryan incorporates feet, release, touch and anticipation to ensure completion on a double move out by Julio Jones
Author – Bryan Trulen
The Dolphins were sparked by Matt Moore’s entrance into the game sunday against Tampa as he threw for 282 yards and posted a 102 rating. We Isolate the touchdown pass to Kenny Stills.

As the Bucs elect to play quarters coverage, Matt Moore sets up against a four man rush. He places his eyes down the MOF to give the illusion that he may be looking that way. Simultaneously, Kenny Stills is using deception to turn the SS Hips

As the play develops, we see Stills who now is running a corner route while the two outside receivers are occupied by their respective defenders as they run underneath routes against man coverage leaving a huge void to the deep outside. Moore displays anticipation and trust as he is already releasing the football

Stills is behind his defender and the ball is in the air

Stills catches the football in stride and will soon be on his way to pay dirt!

#5 Tyrod Taylor 6’0” 1⁄2 215 7th Year, Virginia Tech
Overview
Tyrod Taylor was a 5th round selection of the Ravens in the 2011 draft. He served as Joe Flaaco’s primary backup from 2012-2014 and was brought to Buffalo as Rex Ryan’s guy in 2015. Taylor has made the most of his opportunity to start the past two years while displaying a powerful arm, rare running ability and has taken care of the football very well throwing for 37 touchdowns to only 12 interceptions.
Analysis
Tyrod Taylor has most everything you would want from your starter. Taylor possesses high end arm strength, is generally accurate to all three levels and puts great touch on the deep ball, not to mention he might be the most electric signal caller in the league from an athletic standpoint. Taylor’s biggest weaknesses is his inability to throw with anticipation on a regular basis and prevents him from a being a top shelf passer. Lets dig a bit deeper - Taylor is by most accounts an accurate passer but the 2015 and 2016 tape show a quarterback who relies on being a “see it throw it” guy as opposed to a true anticipation and timing passer ___ To Read the entire Taylor Report purchase our 2017 Pro QB Almanac

#5 Drew Stanton 6’2” 242 10th Year, Michigan State
Drew Stanton is capable, gun-slinging minded backup quarterback who has developed a close relationship with Cardinal coach Bruce Arians as he and Arians came to Arizona together from Indianapolis in 2013. Stanton is a guy who possesses certain intangibles required for the position such as grit, willingness to take chances with ball and high level leadership traits. He is a respected veteran member of the Arizona locker room because of this. When Stanton has played he has performed well at times much of which can be attributed to the intangible traits___ To read the entire Stanton Report as well as Reports on every other league QB purchase a copy of our 2017 Pro QB Almanac
Bryan Trulen of QB Film Room takes a look at a handful of Colin Kaepernick throws that speak to the type of player he is inside the Pocket. Outside of the pocket he remains an electric talent and at times looks the part of a solid pocket player. He will be seeking consistency when he returns to the league.

#9 David Fales 6’1 1⁄2 215 4th Year, San Jose State Overview
David Fales was signed by the team in April of 2017. A bit of a backdrop on Mr. Fales - He was a sixth round pick of the Chicago Bears in 2014 who was handpicked by then Bears coach Marc Trestman to be the team’s developmental quarterback. Trestman was then fired after Fales’ rookie year and Adam Gase was then brought in by the new staff to be the offensive coordinator in 2015. Fales has almost zero regular season game experience on his resume but it seems he was brought to Miami for a reason as he did spend 2015 with Gase in Chicago. Out of high school, Fales originally signed with Nevada, transferred to a Junior College for a year because Colin Kaepernick was the starter and ultimately found his way to San Jose State where he started for two years and was considered one of the best quarterbacks in all of college football.
Analysis
Rhythm, touch and eye manipulation are staples of Fales game as a thrower. From a pure physical perspective he is just average. Average arm, average mobility, average size etc. Fales does seem to have a way with the football and throws a very good deep ball. He invariably throws a catchable football away from defenders and keeps his targets safe when he throws into tight windows. During extended Pre-Season action in 2014 Fales made a couple of big time on the move throws where he effortlessly connected with precision to his targets with defenders
breathing down his neck. He for the most part is mechanically sound as a passer and could be classified a natural thrower.
As a processor of information he lags behind a bit. Fales at times has frozen up when forced to move to secondary options post snap and due to his lack of ideal size has trouble manipulating the pocket with regularity.
2017 Projection
Fales is going to have to perform well this August in order to beat out Brandon Doughty for a spot on the 53 man roster. This is going to be a battle to watch as Doughty was also hand picked by the organization as a late round pick from a year ago. Fales has one year of practice squad eligibility left but at this point it should be considered a toss up on which one of these quarterbacks the Dolphins carry this year.

With the unthinkable taking place yesterday in Minneapolis, The Packers now must turn to their 2nd year guy from UCLA. If the Depression we are feeling at QB Film Room seems bad I can only imagine how bad things are up in Green Bay…

#7 Brett Hundley 6’3” 227 3rd Year, UCLA Overview/Analysis
Brett Hundley is entering his 3rd year in Green Bay and has put together some solid preseason tape. Hundley hails from UCLA and we believe he is one of the best Bruin quarterbacks of all time. During his time in Westwood, Hundley threw for nearly 10,000 yards with 75 touchdowns to 25 interceptions. He was a legitimate dual threat guy at UCLA as he rushed for over 1,700 yards and 30 touchdowns as a Bruin. Hundley boasts a very strong arm and has the ability to make tight window throws down the field. He has had somewhat of a mechanical overhaul during his first two years as a Packer under Mike McCarthy and has made subtle tweaks to his mechanics. As a thrower, Hundley has a quick release although he does have a tendency to shot put the ball at times still resulting in a less than clean looking throwing motion.
2017 Projection
The backup job is Hundley’s in 2017 and the team will look to continue to foster his development as a player.

#12 Aaron Rodgers 6’2” 223 13th Year, California
Overview
Aaron Rodgers is viewed by many as the best quarterback in the league. We believe he is the most physically gifted passer in the game today and possibly of all time. The transformation that Rodgers has gone under throughout the course of his career has been astonishing. He came into the league as a tightly wound up somewhat antsy Jeff Tedford protege as he looked overly mechanical and robotic early on (2005-2007) It was not until he took the reigns full time in 2008 that his true talent began to show. From the outset Rodgers ability to throw with effortless ease was second to none and his arm has always been one of the strongest if not the strongest arm in the game. For his career, Aaron has thrown for over 36,000 yards with 297 touchdowns to just 72 interceptions while also rushing for 25 touchdowns.
Analysis
Rodgers is arguably the best second reaction quarterback of all time - meaning he is able to extend plays at a Hall of Fame type level after he is forced to react off the initial stages of a given play. Rodgers executes this in a highly intuitive fashion and does it at a considerably higher rate than every other quarterback in the league. His success rate is very high as well which has resulted in weekly off-script highlight reels for Rodgers. Rodgers has a rare ability to play the position with a risk taking style while still bringing judicious decision making to the field. He will at times bypass throws that are open early in the down within the timing and structure of a play in order to create and play the game from the aforementioned second reaction standpoint. This has been a cause of frustration locally in Green Bay and around the league due because there are numerous instances when Rodgers solely relies on pocket precision and beating the opposition before the snap. It almost seems as if Rodgers is literally at times playing mind games with the defense just to see what he can get away with which has resulted in a fair amount of unnecessary hits over the course of the past few years. Some of Rodgers best games from 2016 (Lions, Bears, Vikings) all at home by the way were due to Rodgers playing at a PHD level from the pocket. Rodgers has a Dan Marino type release which is regarded as hands down the quickest and most natural in the entire league.
2017 Projection
Rodgers is going to have to stay healthy for the duration of 2017 for the Packers to have a chance to make it back to the postseason. Rodgers has shouldered quite a bit over the years and 2017 would be the perfect time for the Packers to return the favor and support Rodgers in ways not yet seen. Perhaps the defense can make strides and allow the team to be in a position to secure home field throughout the playoffs.

#2 Ryan Nassib 6’2” 223 5th Year, Syracuse
Overview/Analysis
Nassib quite simply is a football player who happens to play quarterback. Regular season opportunities have been limited for Nassib but he did flash his ability during a garbage time contest at Minnesota late in 2015 where he threw a perfectly placed touchdown pass. During the preseason Nassib has shown the ability to move the offense down the field at times while displaying good enough throwing ability to at least garner consideration as to what he could become as a starter down the line. However, he did have an erratic 2016 preseason….

#13 Trevor Siemian 6’3” 220 3rd Year, Northwestern
Overview
Trevor Siemian played solid football in spades throughout the duration of 2016 as a first time starting quarterback for the Broncos. Just the fact that a quarterback with ZERO experience up until that point could gain the trust of a team coming off a Super Bowl victory is astonishing and speaks to not only the type of potential he has a p layer but also his demeanor and leadership skills. Siemian went through typical growing pains in 2016 (every rookie QB does) and had some rough stretches of football. But those were outweighed by his strong performances throughout the year (Chiefs, Bengals). Siemian ended up throwing for 3,400 yards with 18 touchdowns and 10 interceptions while starting 14 games.
Analysis
Siemian does a good job of getting the ball out of his hand quickly which underscores his ability to quickly process information and be confident when the picture is clear for him pre snap. He is adept at leading receiving targets into windows within the intermediate game and changes ball trajectory with ease. A true intuitive sense exists in Siemian in terms of throwing the ball to right target at the right time. Not to say this happened all the time but more often than not his 2016 tape shows a quarterback who quickly isolates where to go with the ball and utilizes refined elements such as anticipation and touch in order to complete his throws. Some of this has to do with how the coaching staff designed their offense for Trevor as certain reads were not as complex as perhaps in years past with Peyton at the control. Trevor is a good deep fade ball thrower even though he lacks above average arm strength. He does however have enough arm strength to complete the majority of passes asked of him. He showed on multiple occasions the ability to instinctively adjust his arm slot in order to ensure completion whether that was throwing around a defensive lineman, or when he needed to throw over a 2nd level defender with touch. Siemian is an easy thrower who sets up crisply during his drops. Fluid mover who lacks top end speed but is athletic enough to make things happen off-script. The prevailing theme to his game is his great ability to anticipate windows and to lead his receivers to green grass when he is able to remain on schedule and the picture is clear. Trevor Does have a tendency to short arm some of his passes at times which can lead to small bouts of erratic throws. Trevor’s decision making came under question when forced to deal with pressure in 2016 and will remain the blueprint on how to stop him until proven otherwise.
2017 Projection
Siemian (In Theory) should be in the driver’s seat to retain his job as the Broncos starting quarterback. The problem is Paxton Lynch was selected in the first round (2016) and Trevor was an un-drafted free agent. Siemian will be in a difficult situation in 2017 in terms of having to win the job over again and fend off a quarterback in Lynch who may be given every opportunity to win the job.

Scott Tolzien got the nod Sunday at the Coliseum as the Indianapolis Colts opened the 2017 campaign against the LA Rams. It was an uneven performance with more bad than good for Tolzien as he went 9-18 for 128 Yards with 2 INT on the day. He also had a should have been TD pass stripped away by the Officials. We break down his first pass interception in detail.
For an In-Depth report on Andrew Luck, Scott Tolzien and every other Rostered QB in league be sure to get yourself a copy of our 105 Page 2017 Pro QB Almanac
(All Visual Content courtesy of NFL Game Pass)

Tolzien is confronted with a 3rd and Long situation on Indy’s opening drive. His pre-snap indicator is most likely the SS playing bump and run press man on the middle receiver (His Intended Target)

As Tolzien hitches up in the pocket, he has made up his mind and is placing trust in his intial pre snap read. The outside WR is running open and has green grass in front of him

We are able to clearly see the open Colts wr running across the field.

Tolzien’s line of sight is most likely inhibited due to interior pressure however this is a situation where throwing blindly with confidence comes in handy. The under route is clearly wide open and would have gotten the Colts a first down.

The ball is in the air and the Ram’s DB is in prime position to intercept the pass. Tolzien getting a bit greedy in the pre snap phase and not taking what is there resulted in a pick six for Los Angeles.

#7 Jacoby Brissett 6’4” 235 2nd Year, North Carolina State
Overview
Jacoby Brissett was a third round selection for the Patriots just two years ago. He stepped into the quarterback room and has showed that he belongs in the league. Brissett made a spot start last season and dazzled at times with his athleticism and arm strength. Look for him to continue upward on his developmental track in 2017 and continue to become more comfortable as a passer within the Patriots system.
Analysis
Brings to the table many desirable traits for the position. Sheer arm strength and velocity are staples of his game as is his fearless nature within the pocket as he does not flinch in the face of pressure. Truly a tough quarterback who has the body and build to withstand physical punishment. Very comfortable throwing on the move as he was often running for life during his time at NC State. This is two fold because he developed some bad habits in college due to the constant pressure was under. This disallowed growth to form in terms of him becoming a seasoned passer. The thing with Brissett though is that he shows ability on film that makes you believe he could become a starter in the league at some point. He is an athletic, instinctive mover who is capable of throwing well on the move. He currently has decent footwork operating both from the gun and under center. Will look to keep a play alive until the last possible second which can be a double edged sword. At his best, Brissett brings elements of Donovan McNabb and Daunte Culpepper to the table.
2017 Projection
Brissett is a lock to make the Patriots 53 man roster in 2017. If things go according to plan, New England will use this year to develop the finer points of his game. It will be interesting to see how much progress Brissett makes during Pre-Season action.
